Dois I Rosser, Jr.,
Chairman of Pomoco Auto Group, knew little about the car business when he
entered the market over 60 years ago. However, when a small country DeSoto
franchise called Poquoson Motors was listed for sale under Rosser's real estate
company, he seized a new business opportunity. Rosser purchased Poquoson Motors
in 1948. Since then, he has pioneered several sales concepts that are now
commonplace in dealerships across the country.
Working with a
small inventory and limited amount of capital in the early stages, Rosser
implemented the concept of high volume/low-profit car dealing. Selling in volume
enabled the company to sell for less profit, which has not only proven
beneficial to the customer, but it also enabled Rosser to maximize the amount of
capital that he had available.
In 1958, Rosser
moved his dealership to Hampton but kept the name Poquoson Motors, which by then
had the 6th highest sales of any DeSoto dealership in the country. The company
opened what is now Nissan Lincoln Mercury of Hampton in 1955, and in 1997 opened
the Pomoco Chrysler Plymouth, Lincoln Mercury, and Used Car Center on Jefferson
Avenue in Newport News near the airport. In other progressive moves, Rosser
continued to buy additional franchises. To date, he has operated 28 franchises
under the Pomoco Auto Group.
Today the Pomoco Auto Group consists
of Chrysler Jeep in Hampton, Chrysler Dodge Jeep in Newport News, Lincoln
Mercury in Hampton and Newport News, Nissan in Hampton, and Multiple Used Car locations, plus over 300
Associates Ready to Serve You.
